Week 1
The first week of this restoration project has involved stripping the old canvas roof and fittings to allow for the installation of the new, fully insulated roof and made ready with OSB board in anticipation for the final choice in roof covering.
Work has also started on the external woodwork of the carriage and there is over 140 years worth of paint to remove back to the original timber! Once this has been completed we will carry out any rot repairs and timber replacement before we move onto the new painting works.
We are also fully restoring the original sliding sash windows which haven't been opened for over a century. It's absolutely fascinating to learn how these carriages were built.
